Ask Almirah · coming soon after launch

A private AI that knows your money.

Ask in plain words and Almirah answers with your own numbers. It looks things up across your five shelves and shows what it looked at. The AI runs on your computer, works offline, and nothing you ask leaves it.

How it works

  1. Turn on Ask in Almirah's settings. It checks your computer first and tells you whether Ask will run well.
  2. Almirah downloads a small model once, about 2.5 GB, from our own server, and checks the file.
  3. Ask anything. It reads only your shelves on your computer and answers offline. No account, no cloud.

Will it run on my computer?

Ask needs a computer, not a phone. The rest of Almirah works on any computer, with or without Ask.

Quick check, from this browser

Browsers share only rough details, so this is a guess. Almirah's own check gives the real answer when you turn Ask on.

How fast is it?

  • Apple Silicon Macs run the model on the graphics chip: most answers take a few seconds. On an 8 GB MacBook Air (M3) in our tests, half the answers took under 7 seconds.
  • Windows and Linux with 16 GB run it on the processor: a few seconds to half a minute.
  • 8 GB without Apple Silicon works, slowly: around half a minute or more. Close other big apps while asking.

What it never does

  • Send your questions or your numbers anywhere. The model runs on your computer.
  • Use the internet after the one-time download.
  • Learn from your data for anyone else. Nothing about you trains anything.
  • Tell you what to buy or sell. It explains your own numbers.

Small models make mistakes

A model small enough to run on a laptop is far smaller than the AI you use online, and it gets things wrong sometimes. It can misread a figure, look at the wrong month, or answer a slightly different question than the one you asked.

So Almirah checks its work: every amount and percentage in an answer is matched against the data it looked up, and anything it can't find is marked as unchecked. Each answer also links to the screen it came from. Still, check anything important on the shelf itself before you act on it.

Ask summarises your own data. It is not investment, tax or legal advice.

Questions

Do I need to install anything else, like Ollama?

No. Ask comes inside Almirah: turning it on downloads the model and that's all. If you already run models with Ollama, you can point Almirah at your own instead.

When is it coming, and what does it cost?

Ask comes soon after launch, as part of a separate tier: Almirah with Ask. People on the waitlist hear first, and the founding price will include an upgrade path.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the one-time download, Ask works with no internet at all.

Which model does it use?

A small open model, about 4 billion parameters, chosen for how well it looks things up in your data. We're testing several now and will name the one we ship, with its licence.

Can it see my bank logins or passwords?

No. Almirah never has your bank logins, and Ask reads only the shelves on your computer.
